Autism

Autism is a development disorder of children which affects the central nervous system. Autistic children are emotionally detached and have impaired communication skills.
There are many theories regarding the cause of autism. In fact, there is currently no consensus regarding this.
And recently, a new theory -- which should add to the already controversial discussion -- has been announced.
From a study of 132,844 kids, lead author Lisa Croen, an epidemiologist at kaiser
Permanente's Division of Research in Oakland, says that "both the mother's age and father's age affects the risk of having a child with autism". New parents aged 40 and older have a greater risk (30% for women and 50% for men) of having children diagnosed with autism.
I am sure that the controversy behind the causes of autism will continue. Let's all hope, though, that the studies being conducted will soon result in a more conclusive report.
