With my now-5-month old son, I plan on breastfeeding him for a whole year. I have decided to stay home with him for a whole year so I could breastfeed him longer.
Breastfeeding has its PROS and CONS which may vary depending on the person's needs. Here are mine:
PROS:
- It's best for babies' health.
- It helps me lose all that weight. My son is now 5-months old and I am only 2 kilos away from my pre-pregnancy weight. to think, I do not diet and I gained a total of 22 kilos during my pregnancy.
CONS:
- I have not slept for more than 4 hours ever since I gave birth.
- My breasts are a cup bigger. I look heavier (despite the weight that I have already lost) than I really am.
- The pain of engorgement
- The guilt of being away from my baby during the few times when I had to go elsewhere without him.
I am sure there's more but it's 2:50 and in 10 minutes, my head needs to hit the pillow and breastfeed.
What about YOU? Do you know of any other PROS and CONS of breastfeeding?

Another pro -- Convenience. I love that I don't have to pack bottles, formula, etc to leave the house with my baby. Stick a diaper in my purse, and I am good to go. If I am with him, he can eat! Another definate pro - cost! Formula is so expensive!

What about when the baby refuses to take a bottle? It happened to my firend and she literally couldn't leave the child or have anyone else feed him until he was several months old and began drinking out of a cup. For thios reason I am very hesitant to commit to brestfeeding. Anyone else had this problem?

When a baby refuses bottle it is because you introduced the bottle too late. If you plan on pumping and bottle feeding your baby eventually you need to introduce that early (in the first few weeks) so they dont get used to only breast.

More Pros: It reduces baby's risk of many diseases, such as leukemia, breast cancer, Crohn's disease, ear infections, asthma, allergies and diabetes.
Reduces mom's risk of osteoporosis, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, diabetes and others.
Breastfed babies as a whole are smarter.
Every time you nurse, your body makes antibodies in your milk to any germs that pass through you from your baby's mouth, keeping your baby healthier!
Breastfeeding promotes better facial muscle development (the difference in bottle sucking vs nursing sucking).
Breastfeeding contains natural pain relievers (endorphins). Every little bump or scratch can be soothed with some nursing! After vaccines also.
My daughter is 16 months and a happy little nursing bug. :)
Breastfeeding is amazing!!
I see no cons.

I have three wonderful children, all of whom were breastfed until 18 months. There are no cons to breastfeeding, whatsoever. I am a little sad that my 13 month old will not be bf for much longer. It is an incredible bonding experience. I think mom's who don't breastfeed are really missing out on a wonderful experince. I would have it no other way.
