Can’t wait for Christmas!

My 6-year old son cannot wait for Christmas. Remember this Christmas wishlist? Well I can already tear it to pieces because each week that he accompanies me to the grocery store, we ended up buying other sorts of toys on display.

And he wouldn't budge, we gotta pick up one piece each time. Now it's helicopters and tankers. Gosh, when will kids ever realize the value of money? My Christmas budget is already screwed up!

The key is to not take you kids shopping. This year I had decided to just buy everything online. I have as of yet to step into the mall.

Honestly I think your problem is that you’re giving in to his every whim. Sure we all want to make our children happy, but you’re spoiling him rotten! Why in the world are you buying him a new toy/new toys every single time he goes shopping with him? You ask when kids will learn to value of money. How do you expect him to learn the value of money if you just buy him whatever he wants whenever he goes shopping with you? Goodness. The fault is not with your child here, it’s with you. You need to learn to say no, and stick to your guns.

I agree Fire. You can’t buy a child something everytime you go into the store. When my children would ask for toys, I would ask them, “Is it Christmas or your birthday?” Of course the answer was no, so that meant no toys. If I did buy them new toys outside of Christmas and birthdays, I didn’t do it when they were with me. My guess would be that the kids you see screaming in buggies in the stores have just been told no to something they want and are screaming because they normally get it and are certain that the parent will probably give in.
