Sometimes I wish our dinner times are less harried, but with a 7 yr old who just wants to gobble up his food and have it done with, and an 18month old who starts making a goo of her meal and drink once she's done, one learns to finish dinner within roughly 10 minutes. Entirely unhealthy, I know, but I think I might just have stumbled on a gadget to buy my husband and I some time to chew our meals properly: the Chalk It To Me Chalkboard Place mats.
These place mats take after those coloring page-cum-place mats they give kids in some restaurants, but much improved. They are washable so they can be doodled on over and over again.
Just draw, wipe off and draw again. You can also play tic-tac-toe, and parents can leave messages for their kids in the morning wishing them luck on the test – or reminding them to eat their veggies.
For $30 for a set of 4, they're a tad bit pricy, but most customer reviews say they are worth it!
