CHILD LEARNING STYLE

CHILD LEARNING STYLE

What our children learn is important. However, a lot of people forget that HOW our children learn is as important as what they learn.

When teaching kids, it is important to know their learning style. If we are able to identify this, the learning experience will be more positive. Kids will learn faster when taught the way they would understand the most.

There are, basically, three ways children learn…

Visual learners rely on sight. They are observant and pay really close attention when you show them how something works. If they don't see or are not shown how it works, they will not be able to fully comprehend it.

Choose appropriate activities which would challenge his visual learning by using flash cards, illustrations, books and any other printed materials.

Auditory learners, on the other hand, rely on hearing the information. They learn after hearing an instruction and can even follow it to the letter. Auditory learners listen to teachers more.

One way for them to learn would be through audio materials – whether sang or read. Another would be to go through a story or instructions with them by reading them out loud.

Physical learners rely on using their hands or bodies. They prefer to feel things in their hands.

Great activity to encourage them would be to have hands-on activities or have them use various materials. They could also be into acting out stories.

If you do not know what your child's learning style is, take the learning styles quiz over at babycenter.

When you know your child's learning style, you can use this as your guide on how to teach him/her – for better performance in school and in life; at the same time, you can also try to help stimulate other learning styles as this may change as he/she grows older.

Knowing your child’s learning style is very important as explained in the post! As a teacher I cannot agree more. I’d like to take it one step farther and point out that we also need to use variety in our lessons by incorporating music, art, and games into learning, in other words FUN! Learning does not have to be pencil and paper. A great resource for teaching your child to read can be found at professornow.com. It incorporates varied teaching tools and lessons and explains a lot about learning stages, making it easy to incorporate your child’s learning style.
