Child Sexuality

"What are you doing?" and "What is that?" are my son's current favorite. Easy to answer. I need to brush up on my basic knowledge because soon he will move on to the never ending questions of "Why?"

Soon enough, he will then move on to questions about the birds and bees *shudders*

Apparently, by the age of five, kids should already know that…

  • "love should make people feel good, safe, and wanted"
  • "people's bodies are different sizes, shapes, and colors
  • "their bodies belong to themselves"
  • "touching their sex organs for pleasure is normal" (wonder what the catholic church would say to this, though *hehe*
  • "it takes a woman and a man to make a baby — how the baby "gets in" and "gets out"
  • "a woman does not have to have a baby unless she wants to"
  • Check out Human Sexuality — What Children Need to Know and When They Need to Know It over at Planned Parenthood for details.

A child's sexuality need not be an uncomfortable topic (mind you, I need convincing, as well). We have teach our kids the right values before someone else does.
