Childhood Asthma
Health Day reports that "Asthmatic children whose fathers have a history of the disease are at a greater risk of developing a severe asthma-related breathing difficulty than children whose fathers were always asthma-free."
Since diagnosis of asthma by doctors rely a lot on parents' observations, knowing the father's history and the likelihood of the child developing asthma would help a lot in early detection. Less danger of dismissing wheezing as just tiredness or a common cold.

my son who is now 3 years old has been suffering from chronic coughing, often with vomiting, since he was 30 months. lungs X-rays, antibiotics, vitamins and syrops did not help him at all. until a doctor eventually diagnosed asthma induced allergy. he now has an inhaler just in case and is on Singulair (asthma treatment) and is completely healed.
I just want to warn parents that asthma is not just the typical hard-to-breath symptom that we very know of. it comes with a variety of signs. so, be careful.

my sister and i had asthma as a child. it was difficult to diagnose because my parents initially thought we had something else. glad that it is curable.
good to know that your son is fine now, Irene.
