In the Spotlight

"As we were going down Sophia's left shoe (pink crocs) got caught on the side of the escalator. None of us knew what was happening. Soph was yelling. We thought she was just excited about something she was seeing while going down. It happened so fast. I looked down and saw that her shoe was being EATEN by the crack between the escalator and side foot rail. She was screaming. I saw the little pink croc being gobbled up."
Apparently, this is NOT an isolated case. Although, you could say the same thing about flipflops and eveything else which could possibly get "eaten" by the grates of the escalator.
The above experience should warn us, though, of the probable dangers to our kids in escalators, whether they are wearing crocs or not.
"I hope you learn from our experience. Like I said, I don't know if its the shoe or the escalator... but just in case lets always be prepared and act fast."
My son wears his wherever he goes. Yes, even to the same mall where Daphne went with Soph. From today on, though, I will just allow him to wear his crocs in places where we will not be riding an escalator.

There you go. Reason enough not to allow ANYNONE to wear those silly, plastic/rubber shoes in the first place. Keep this rumor alive on the internet--maybe the Croc trend will die a quicky and speedy death.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter! When I was 10 years old(I'm 38 now), I got my foot caught in an escalator the same way your daughter did. I was in a mall in Buffalo,NY with my mom and all of a sudden the escalator took my foot between the step and the side. It ate all of my foot with my tennis shoe on up to my ankle. I rode almost all the way down the escalator with my foot caught in it! Boy, did that hurt! When we got down to the bottom they finally heard me screaming for help. They turned the escalator off and had to get some cold cream(from the cosmetics dept.) to free my foot. It finally came loose. Believe it or not I never lost my foot or any toes. My foot looks like a cheese greater had greated it! My mom & her friend took us to the emergency room for x-rays. Nothing was broken, just sprained, I had to wear a cast on my foot for a while.

The same thing happened to my 10 year old son. Luckily, his foot was spared of any cuts. The crocs however was totally torn in two!
