Cyber Patrol for Kids
Filed in archive Politics of Parenting by Melissa Petri on July 4, 2005
If you are reading this, there's a big chance that you like surfing the net. And there is also a big chance that you believe that there are lots of information that are worth reading online.

However, all of us know that there also exists lots of information in the world wide web that are not only dubious but are actually harmful, especially to impressionable young kids. Something which we always should think about if and when we do allow our kids to go online.

Here are a few suggestions which may be of use...

  • Put your computer in a common room. That way you can monitor your child's online activity.

  • Install softwares that can safeguard surfing against explicit images, harmful sites, chat predators, etc. There are countless of these available. Softwares such as CyberPatrol and CyberSitter.

  • And, like in all other aspects of parenting which I am sure you all already know, it is always good to talk to our kids. We can always give them a helping hand by searching for kid friendly sites which would be of interest to them inasmuch as we can advice them what they should not do when online.
