Postpartum depression or postnatal depression is a treatable clinical depression which not only affects women after childbirth, but as much as 10% of new dads as well. Although not much attention is given on the father's PPD, they also go through a lot of transitions, a rush of emotions and physical challenges. Depressive symptoms related to PPD include:
low mood, irritability, not enjoying activities one usually enjoys, feelings of worthlessness and guilt, thoughts of suicide or self-harm, and sleep difficulties not related to the infant.
Fathers play an important role in caring for the baby, hence treatment and support should be of primary importance. Not only does this sickness affect the ability to form a strong attachment with the baby, but it also strains the couple's relationship.
PPD is preventable if it is treated early. Apart from early screening, proper exercise and nutrition plays a big role in preventing PPD.
If you're suffering from PPD, go to your physician and have yourself screened or go to Public Health nurses.

This is interesting. I thought that Postpartum Depression was only caused by hormonal changes in a woman's body. How can it possibly effect a man. Unless it's just depression.
