Does Your Child Have Allergies?

If you or your spouse has some form of allergy, chances are your kids will have them too. However, you should not expect your children to have the same kind of sensitivity like you do. So you may be allergic to shellfish but find your child to have severe reactions to poultry.
Signs of allergies include colds, sinus or ear infections, rashes, hives or itchy eyes. In some kids, you may see bouts with wheezing or chronic cough, asthma or runny nose.
Symptoms of allergies can start to appear as early as the ages of 3 to 5. Once they appear, rush to your pediatrician. Your doctor may prescribe antihistamines and some nose drops to give some relief. In severe cases like difficulty breathing, your pediatrician will want to have some kind of allergy tests to be done like a skin prick or a blood test.
Allergy shots are also available and can bring significant relief. Frequent clean-ups of the bedroom may also help a lot.
