Food Allergy

Food allergies can cause serious and even life threatening reaction to kids. And with health experts saying that allergies — from asthma to foods — are on the rise worldwide, we (parents) should be even more vigilant over our children's diet.

So when shopping for food, labels should be checked in detail. A task that is easier now than before since the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 went into effect, requiring manufacturers to disclose hidden allergens. However, despite this, it still pays to be more observant.

Do not really know if your child has a cold or an allergy? Health24.com has listed the signs which would help you identify what your child is suffering from.

I also recommend you to read When Food Becomes the Enemy for an overview of allergic reactions to food.

I enjoyed this article. My son has food allergies and recently developed asthma. We ended up on the hospital, something I hope to never repeat. I’ve created a website for people with food allergies, called http://www.geeboo.com. On this site, you’ll find more information about food allergies, asthma and I’m adding content about eczema shortly. You can also read of recently recalled foods for accidental contamination (meaning foods that people are allergice to ended up in a product that is usually safe and the label doesn’t declare the allergen). I hope this site will grow into a very useful resource. Anyone visiting the site is welcome to give me feedback on what they’d like to see or change.

    Keep healthy,
    Vikki

I found the article interesting and informative. I have two young children with food allergies and I’m always looking for new ideas, suggestions, and points of view. It requires unbelievable managment on a daily basis to handle food allergies. I’ve written a book for very young children (ages 2 – 6 years) called, Ask Before I Eat, about food allergy management. The book can be personalized to fit any food allergy or allergies and any familial situation. My website, http://www.healthychildpublishing.com has more information about the book and my personal experiences. Every little bit of information helps!

I think every parent should be aware of his child condition and performing regular medical controls is imperatively… Caution is always better than healing.
