Getting the most out of Mother's Day
Filed in archive Politics of Parenting by Melissa Petri on May 10, 2006

I was very disappointed with my 1st mother's day celebration. I expected to finally get the works but no... my dear husband thought that his duty was to make his mother's day special. He didn't really think that his own wife needs the same treatment. He thought it was our sons' duty later in life to make me feel special every May.
I was angry and disappointed.
This year, I am bent on changing his mindset. Since subtlety does not really work with him, I am making sure by making so much noise about how important Mother's Day is for me.
I have been sending him reminders by email (from work) telling him to prepare something special. I have even taken to telling him what I do NOT want. And some little hints on what I MAY love. Don't get me wrong, my husband is a very thoughtful guy. He just needs a little education about mother's day.
I am crossing my fingers that he will not fail this year's Mother's Day. And I am following eHow's tips on "How to Get the Most Out of Your Husband on Mother's Day". Wish me luck!
