Girl with Heart Trouble Dies at Amusement Park
Filed in archive In the Spotlight by Melissa Petri on August 17, 2006

A 10-year old girl collapsed and died after a ride at the Camp Cartoon Network area of Six Flags Great America.
Apparently, the girl had a history of heart trouble.
Amusement Parks have safety regulations. Rides are age- and height-specific to avoid injuries and/or accidents.
Amusement Parks, however, cannot screen all children if they have physical or mental limitations. IMHO, it is the responsibility of the parents and/or guardians to conservatively choose rides if the child in question does have limitations or pre-existing medical conditions.
Children with heart problems can also do what most children do. However, it is always best to (1) ask the doctor's advice before indulging in any activity which may be risky; and (2) err on the side of caution. Hopefully, parents whose children are at risk do think twice before they let their child ride thrill rides.
