Homemaker
There was a time when parents who stay home to take care of the kids and organize the household are called homemakers. Homemakers are usually the housewives or the houshusbands. Nowadays, the term often used is stay-at-home moms or dads.

The term stay-at-home Mom or Dad seems to focus more on one's role as a parent. However, SAHMs or SAHDs do not just take care of the kids.

So, which term should be used?

Lisa of mommies to mommies has an interesting point...

"Lately I have been wondering that. I tell people I stay at home but in a way I consider myself a WAHM (work at home mom). I wake up in the morning, depending on the day what we do. I am a chauffeur, chef, maid, Playmate, and I also really try hard to work on this web site everyday."

Perhaps, we should ALL think of another term which best describes who we refer to at present as stay-at-home moms or dads. What do you think?
