Homeschooling

Recently, I met a lady who has been, for the past 3 years, homeschooling her 8 year-old child. For her, it was a relatively easy decision to make.
Since she was an educator herself, even when her daughter was attending "regular" school, she always made it a point to tutor her at home. It made her proud that she has always been more advanced compared to her friends and classmates. However, this made her feel a bit disappointed with the kind of education her daughter was getting. So, since she had the right background and was willing to commit her time, she decided to homeschool her child. She has not looked back since.
Instead, she continues to look forward by making sure that she is ahead of the game, by attending seminars and constantly updating her own knowledge.
If you are seriously considering taking this direction, you might want to check out information from Beverly Hernandez. She has a great thing going over at About.com. Beveraly has all the basics of Homeschooling covered, from state laws and homeschooling method to getting support.
Want to be privy on how other moms are faring? Here are a few homeschooling moms who are sharing their experiences to the world wide web:
Venomous Kate is a former attorney who has recently started homeschooling her son. Spoke too soon shows how adjustment period could be.
Sprittibee shows how homeschooling makes it possible for kids to enjoy both parents with schedules that are out of this world. I like her accounts.

Whatever your decision is, think hard. Think of what you are ready to sacrifice and commit. Assess your abilities and make sure that your child would want the same. Be realistic!
