From time to time, bad nannies make the headlines. And it's not because they were awarded the nanny of the year. Bad nannies are tabloid fodder for not doing what they are hired to do: protect the children in their care.

Imagine leaving your own child to someone who might have bad intentions? It's a scary thought.

So... how exactly can you make sure that you will not be leaving your child to a crazy person turned nanny?

Ask Nanny has a few tips on How to Spot a Bad Nanny.

BabyCenter's Signs of a Bad Nanny also has even more info on how to look for signs whether your child's caregiver is doing the job she's supposed to be doing.

OR.. you can make it easy for strangers to report to you if and when your nanny is doing something inappropriate. All you need to do is to sign up over at HowsMyNanny. You will then be given a license plate to attach to your stroller. Concerned citizens who sees something odd about the way your nanny handles your child can note down the number on the license plate and report the incident on the website, where you can log in and find the reported information.

When it comes to our children, it always is best to make doubly sure.
