Hyperemesis Gravidarum
Filed in archive Health by Melissa Petri on January 15, 2007

When Lee Lam was pregnant with now-18-month old Morgan, she was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG).
Hyperemesis gravidarum is a severe form of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. It could result in weight loss and nutritional deficiencies. It could also cause abnormalities in a pregnant woman's fluid and electolyte levels. It could affect the pregnant woman's and the fetus' health.
In Lee's case, she "could not keep food down and by the time she was eight weeks pregnant she had lost three-quarters of a stone (4.8kg)".
Thank God, her baby was born healthy. However, as much as she would like to have another child, she has to carefully reconsider, afraid that she will again be diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum.
