If you are thinking of adopting a child, think long and hard first. It's way more than being able to provide financial support. You need to reflect and find out if you can honestly love and raise someone else's biological child as your own because, just like all the other kids, children who are in foster care need the nurturing and support that a permanent family can provide.
Here are a few links which might help you to assess if you are really ready to adopt:
If you're considering adopting a child, take iVillage's quiz and find out how ready you really are.
The Adoption Guide 2005 has an up-to-date introduction to the world of adoption.
"She is a special needs child who I have prayed would fall into our family. I've worked with children like her before and I know what raising a child like this entails. I have never prayed a child would be born with this special need, but I have prayed one would come our way if he/she needed a home." Let MouthyMom's experience show you what some go through once they have decided to adopt a child.
It's not an easy decision to let someone else's child become your own. If and when you do, be sure that not only your home but also your heart is ready to take her/him in.
