Is Your Child Suffering From Migraines?

Children who have at least one parent suffering from migraines are 50 percent more likely to suffer the same fate. The chance of having migraines among kids increases significantly if both parents have them.
Migraine symptoms often include throbbing pain of the head usually located in the front or sides.

Migraines in children may also come with nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light. They usually begin to appear at about age 8 and the pain is sometimes associated with motion sickness.

Try to keep a history of your child's headaches, paying particular attention to what you think is triggering them. Note down also the time of the day when the pain occurs and how your child was generally feeling at the time.

Most children's headaches can be relieved by going to sleep or with a small dose of acetaminophen. If these pain remedies don't work, it may be time to bring your child to a pediatric neurologist.
