Keep it Simple

Keep it simple. Instead of keeping your little tykes updated with the most high-tech toys, "keep them entertained with board games, drawing, ball games and climbing to help develop motor skills and intellect."
According to a leading child specialist, kids (especially those under 5) are better off playing with basic toys.
They have more benefit for the child's development than having a whiz bang toy with lots of bells and whistles. You see them just sitting there pushing the same button again and again, then they get up and walk away.

I strongly agree with this article. We have three kids and when they were infants we purchased lots of Lego toys, not electronic toys. Today, several yeas later they are still playing with their Lego and electronic toys but in school their cognitive skills are very advanced.
Many parents has noticed that some children today who did not grow up with Lego type toys have a difficult time trying to figure out the simplest things. Also, when they are presented with Lego, it frustrates them and they want the quick fix of the electronic game.
As always, there is no perfect answer to raising a child…actually, it is probably the most dynamic and emotional experience anyone of us will ever experience for so many consecutive years.
But, there is still a place in a child’s life for old school games like Lego. I recommend the next time your child plays with their Lego, join them. You will get more enjoyment from playing with your child because of all the wonderful flashbacks of when you were playing with your Lego that many years ago.
Good article!
