Mary Cheney and her partner Heather Poe welcomed a baby boy yesterday. The boy named Samuel David Cheney was born at 9:46 am weighed 8 lbs. and 6 oz.

Mary Cheney is Vice President Cheney's second daughter and one of her father's campaign aides and closest confidantes. Her sexual orientation has been a source of public attention (she is a known lesbian) because of her political involvement with the Republican Partylinks and the same-sex marriage debate.

Vice President Cheney had a testy exchange with CNN's Wolfblitzer when the latter asked him about a statement from Focus on the Family regarding children outside of a married mother or father is best for a child.

Samuel David Cheney is the Vice President's 6th grandchild.
