Mother’s Day

For most of our readers here, Mother's day is celebrated on the second sunday in May. It's the day when we celebrate motherhood and the time when we thank Mothers. A special day for moms which was originally concieved by Julia Ward Howe after the american civil war.
But did you know that…
In other countries, Mother's Day is celebrated on different days and is from a different origin; some even trace back the origina of Mother's Day to mother worship in Ancient Greece.
Here are the dates when other countries celebrate Mother's Day:
Norway – 2nd Sunday in February
Ireland, UK – 4th Sunday in Lent (March 26)
Hungary, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain – 1st Sunday in May
France, Sweden,Dominican Republic, Haiti – last Sunday in May
Thailand – August 12, the birthday of Queen Sirikit Kitiyakara
Indonesia – December 22
Wherever in the world you are, no one would take it against you if you do show your appreciation every single day.

I was disappointed that you didn’t include Mexico’s Mother’s Day which always falls on the 10th of May. I also wanted to see some suggestions for celebrating Mother’s Day when your children are infants and you didn’t include that either. Last year was my very first Mother’s Day. I went to Vegas with my baby and friends who are not much into buffets. My favorite buffet is at the Paris Hotel, and so I went there alone with my baby. I wish I had had more people around me with whom to celebrate.

Sorry, Laura. The samples given were only meant to point out the differences in the dates. It was not meant to be a complete list of Mother’s Day celebrations.
As for suggestions on where to go, I cannot possibly cover all Mother’s Day suggestions as we try to cover various parenting topics over at Parenting Weblog. However, since you asked, I will try to do my research.
