After our week long stay in the hospital two weeks ago, we came back as an out-patient last Monday, to have my son's follow-up check-up. My poor baby had to endure a lot. Since the doctors suspected that the tubes from his kidney to his bladder my not close off when he's urinating (hence making a reflux to the kidney), they inserted a catheter (they tried 8 times btw, poor baby) and made an X-ray of his bladder and kidneys. Thank god that his ureters were working well, and we were allowed to go home without an operation.
If you still remember, he had a urinary tract infection that was undetected, which eventually went up to his kidneys. While in the hospital, he was given 10 ml/h electrolytes infusion and antibiotics 3 times per day. After three blood tests and two urine tests, he was declared healthy and was allowed to go home. Although I still had to give him antibiotics 3 times per day, at home, for a total of 20 days.
I am thankful that he's healthy again. Unfortunately, my poor son's skin got worse while we were in the hospital. From the simple baby acne, it is now a full-blown Atopic Neurodermatitis. This unfortunate skin problem stemmed from my side of the family. We've consulted his doctor, and one can't do much but spread an almond oil ointment as often as possible. I am thinking of consulting a skin doctor if it worsens. Let's hope not.
And to top off his string of whammys, he started coughing and sneezing yesterday. Thanks to the weather and (I suspect) one of his cousins, he's got upper respiratory problems. I've already given him medicine to loosen the phlegm and nose drops so that he can breathe better. Although I still am thankful because atleast he doesn't have a fever.
I'm hoping that he's done with his triple whammy and on his way to full recovery. There's nothing more difficult than seeing you child get sick. Although I still am thanking my stars, that atleast, there are medicines available to make him well.
