"I wanted to protect my brother", said Rayshun McDowell, 5 year-old boy from Kingstown, North Carolina.
Rayshun battled a rabid fox and pinned it to the ground and held it for more than a minute during a family cook out in the front yard of his home in Kingstown, before his step-father, Ryan Thompson, beat the fox to death with a stick and his crutch.
After the incident, Rayshun only asked for a Band-Aid and did not complain of any pain.
Unfortunately the fox that bit Rayshun in the leg is confirmed to have rabies. He and another 6 year-old girl who was attacked by another fox at home is also being treated.
