When a healthy infant cries and is fussy for no apparent reason (not cold, not sick, not wet, nor hungry), he or she has colic. It's perfectly normal -- 25% of all infants are colicky -- and it's a condition that goes away on its own.
Infant colic appear when the baby is two to four weeks old. It can last until the baby is around three months old.
Since my baby started showing signs of colic, I have been extra careful with what I have been eating. I avoid gassy food which could be passed on to him when I breastfeed. I have also been very religious in making sure that he gets burped after (or even in between) each feed. In addition, I also rub/massage his stomach with Acete de Manzanilla, a green oil remedy that aids in releasing gas.
Despite all of the above, my baby still gets fussy. The best that I can do when he is in pain is to cuddle him or make him lie on my stomach. I am praying that this "normal" condition will soon come to pass.
Is your baby colicky, as well? Do you feel as helpless as I do? Here are a few more vital information regarding colic from KidsHealth which could help you (and I) understand that we have nothing to worry about.
