A study completed by researchers from the University of London suggests that autism disorders are related to parts of the brain being weakly linked. The study focussed on face recognition which is a problem inherent with Autism disorders.
The researchers showed a control group as well as a group affected by autism disorders 2 pairs of images, 2 houses and two faces, and asked them to concentrate on whether they were the same. During this period researchers took scans of the brains of the people.
The results showed that people in the control group who were not affected by autism showed a marked increase in brain activity when they were shown the faces. However, those affected with autism showed no response at all suggesting that the parts of their brain involved in face recognition are not well connected to those parts that are involved in attention.
