Have you ever had to talk to a 'one upper'? They are the people who can always top whatever story you have to tell. They are the people who know someone who can sort out every issue. They think they know more than everyone but often don't even grasp how annoying they are.
A variety of the one upper is the parent who won't stop talking about their kid's achievements. They love to play the comparison game - how Junior walked, talked or did their taxes before everyone else. How little sally is ahead of schedule for reading, school or sports.
Those type of people drive me insane. I mean no disrespect to their children's speedy progress through early life. Hooray for them but each child develops on their schedule and takes their own path. The fastest out of the gate doesn't always mean they win the race - and really, who ever said it was a race? There are grades in school but there is no reading race.
I'm happy your child is doing well but you know what, my kid is just fine at her own pace too.
