Parenting on Prom Night

Apart from dancing, celebrating and having the time of your life, dressed to the nines, being with the person you liked, do you still remember (or were you also with them? haha) those kids who did something more? They got drunk and/or had sex for the first time.
Now that your son/daughter is all set to go to the prom, you'd wish he/she would have fun, right? Of course. Although... hmmmm... but what kind of fun would they be having?!
Would Prom night be any different this generation? You betcha! See, even popping the question of "would you go to the prom with me?" is different! Imagine how different celebrations could be?
Are you as paranoid as I am? Here are a few tips for us, parents, during prom night:
- Make sure your child has a plan for the evening and that you know it.
- Work with the school to have food served during the prom.
- Know all of the "hot spot" destinations.
- Take stock of the alcohol in your home.
- Know who is driving
- Discuss the school's prom rules with your child and the consequences of violating them.
- Encourage seatbelt use -- the best accessory!
- Do not rent hotel rooms for prom-goers.
- Communicate with other parents and school officials.
- Stay up until your prom-goer returns home.
What would you do?!
