Parenting when Sick
Filed in archive Health by Melissa Petri on June 03, 2006

Home from the kindergarten, my son's "Mama, let's play" gripped my heart. For several days, I had to say no. I do not really know if his young mind understood what papa meant when he explained that I was sick. But, I had no choice. I needed to care for myself in order to be healthy again, be the mom that he wanted again.
Have you been sick lately? How did you explain when your toddler is asking for what you can't give becuase you are too weak? Did you ask for help?
Should you find yourself in the same situation I found myself in last week, try to be realistic about your parenting abilities. It's not easy and we do need to know when to stop, ask for help and take more care of ourselves. Check out TodaysParent's The Sick Parent's Survival Guide for sound tips.
In any case, I am better now. Do excuse the temporary, unexpected hiatus on this blog. I am healthy now. Back to playing with my toddler and back to writing about what I love doing the best - parenting!
