Parents Are Superheroes Too

I am disappointed with Marvel and DC Comics. Why oh why have they yet to include us, parents, in their roster of super heroes? Why?!

Whichever way I look at it, parents definitely have the common traits of a super hero. At least, judging by the way wikipedia defines it.

See, we deserve the title even more because we aren't fictional and yet we are courageous, have abilities beyond those of "normal" human beings and yes, we do sometimes have to wear costumes.

You don't believe me? Let's take a look at the traits of superheroes one by one...

Enhancement of senses. We seem to know exactly when that bump in the night is just a toy falling or our baby's head hitting the side of the crib or, worse, the floor. Our hands seem to have built-in thermometer as it can immediately sense when our child is running a fever. Even if there are hundreds of other kids around, we know exactly if it is our own child who is crying.

A strong moral code. Except for those few monster parents, most of us are willing to risk our own safety for the sake of our kids.

A secret identity. Yup, we all hide behind the names: mom/mum/mama/mommy or dad/daddy/papa.

A flamboyant and distinctive costume. Rollers in the hair, unkempt hair, unshaved beard perfectly matches our mismatched clothes that screams "I didn't sleep a wink last night".

A trademark weapon. Mine is my Coach Baby Bag which has every single thing that my child may want or need -- from diapers and milk to pacifier, a book and a nappy cream.

A number of enemies that he/she fights repeatedly. Mine is my mother-in-law who can't seem to stop intervening and thinking that just because she was a superhero before, she could tell this superhero how to use her own powers. Who is your enemy?

Now... would you be willing to go to DC Comics and Marvel with me and insist on getting our rightful title? After all, PARENTS ARE REAL SUPERHEROES!!!
