Parents of Lesbians and Gays

One of the scenes which stuck to my mind when I watched the movie The Family Stone, was the reaction of Diane Keaton when Sarah Jessica Parker insensitively brought forth her views on having a gay child.
In the movie, Keaton bristled at Parker's insensitivity and immediately reassured her gay son that she loves and accepts him wholly.
Not everyone in this world is color blind inasmuch as not everyone readily accepts the fact that someone could be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (GLBT). There is still a long way to go before everyone stops misunderstanding and/or discriminating.
Sadly, in some families, there are those who even discriminate against their own flesh and blood. As parents, isn't our default setting to love our children unconditionally?
Should you find it difficult to understand your child's sexual orientation, do not worry. Before you react negatively, think of the love that you have for your child. Seek help from those who know what you are going through.
And when you have internalised the truth and are ready to accept your child who is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, you can now be the best parent and give the support, understanding and love your child will need.
