Popcorn Lung

I was intrigued when I read an article about this disease. Honestly, I was a bit shocked when I read the headline saying that it's a disease. Since I consume almost a kilo (no kidding) a week, as an alternative to chips. It has less calories (unless you prefer to eat it with caramel) and easy to prepare. I normally prepare it the old fashion way, either with a pop corn maker (sans oil) or in a pot with olive oil and a tinge of salt. I'm not really a fan of microwave popcorns that you can buy in groceries because I find it too "metallic" (tastes like metal) for my taste.
Anyhow, "Popcorn Lung" (scientific name Bronchiolitis Obliterans) is not a disease that you catch when you eat popcorn (thank GOD!). Although there is one case that involves a consumer who heavily consumes microwave popcorn. It's actually associated with the chemical called Diacetyl, which is used as the butter flavor for popcorns. It is called so, because the disease appears mostly on microwave popcorn factory
workers. In fact, there's a class action law suit involving this disease since serious cases are life threatening.Permalink: Popcorn Lung
