Precocious Puberty
Exactly 68 years ago, a 5 year-old Peruvian child gave birth to a 2.7 kilo baby boy. Lina Medina, who delivered through cesarean section, is the youngest mother ever recorded in medical history.

First believed to have a tumor in her belly, it was later determined by her doctors in Lima, Peru that she was already in her 7th month of pregnancy when her parents brought her to the doctors. She gave birth a on May 14, 1939, a month and a half later.

Lina Medina's condition is called Precocious Puberty. Precocious puberty "refers to the early onset of puberty". Although her condition is extremely rare in children younger than 5 years old, this condition is possible.

Her son, which was named Gerardo, grew up believing that Lina was his sister until he was 10 years old, lived until the age of 40. He later died of a bone-marrow disease.

Lina, who until now lives in a poor district in Lima, is married and had another son who was born in 1972, never revealed who the father of Gerardo is.

Her father who was arrested for suspicion of rape and incest, was later released due to lack of evidence.
