Ever since I entered the third trimester of my pregnancy, I have been finding it increasingly hard to get a good night's sleep. It's difficult to get into a comfortable position, particularly with a growing belly and more pronounced fetal movement. Adding to this discomfort are the frequent trips to the bathroom at night.

It is recommended that pregnant women should try and sleep on their left side, as this allows increased blood flow to the baby. Using an extra pillow or two can help make this easier and provide you with better support while you sleep. There are various kinds of pregnancy pillows available; long ones that you can wrap your legs around, some that also provide back support and others that are wedge-shaped and can be used between the legs or under the belly.

Another option is to use smaller pillows, and place them in similar areas for more comfort. I usually take two extra pillows to bed with me; one to place between my legs and another to tuck behind my back so it keeps me in a somewhat comfortable position. While at times I end up hogging more than my side of the bed (no complaints from my husband so far!) having these extra pillows as support has definitely helped me sleep a little better.
