Pregnancy Pillows

Ever since I entered the third trimester of my pregnancy, I have been finding it increasingly hard to get a good night's sleep. It's difficult to get into a comfortable position, particularly with a growing belly and more pronounced fetal movement. Adding to this discomfort are the frequent trips to the bathroom at night.
It is recommended that pregnant women should try and sleep on their left side, as this allows increased blood flow to the baby. Using an extra pillow or two can help make this easier and provide you with better support while you sleep. There are various kinds of pregnancy pillows available; long ones that you can wrap your legs around, some that also provide back support and others that are wedge-shaped and can be used between the legs or under the belly.
Another option is to use smaller pillows, and place them in similar areas for more comfort. I usually take two extra pillows to bed with me; one to place between my legs and another to tuck behind my back so it keeps me in a somewhat comfortable position. While at times I end up hogging more than my side of the bed (no complaints from my husband so far!) having these extra pillows as support has definitely helped me sleep a little better.

Don’t go without a pregnancy pillow!
With my first I didn’t have one because it seemed like a little indulgance I could go without. My husband gave me one when I was preg with our second and it changed my life. I’m not exagerating at all. I leant it to my sister who was having a really hard time sleeping during her pregnancy and she was totally impressed. Give yourself the gift of a good nights sleep. You can’t go without one of these. LOVE IT!!!

Hi Francesca,
Thanks for your comment! I was wondering what kind of pillow you used – what shape was it?

I totally agree with the other posters. A pregancy pillow is a NEEDED ITEM. I tried the snoogle, a wedge, and now I have a bumpil. I think the wedge was terrible for comfort and the snoogle took up the entire bed and made getting comfortable a little difficult. My bumpil seems to work prefectly for me. I learned about it on a message board, and I know there is a website that sells them http://www.bumpil.com but I couldn’t tell you which store has them because I looked at target and they said they didn’t carry them, so I went to that site and bought it. Oh I alsmost forget to mention one of the best things about it because it is more than a pillow. it changes into a baby place. It is really cool and very worth it.

I found a pregnancy pillow that I loved and used it throughout my entire pregnancy and a year later am still using it for breastfeeding support. The pillow is from http://www.onestopbaby.com. The pillows are very comfortable and helped to ease my lower back pain and supported my growing tummy at the same time. With all of the cute colors that they come in, it was not difficult to find one that matched my bedroom perfectly. I did not find this pillow until my third pregnancy and wish that I would have had it for the first two. I consider the pregnancy pillow from One Stop Baby a must have item and reccomend it to all of my pregnancy friends. (By the way I also love the blankets and nursing cover that I purchased there.)

what’s great about this is that you can still use pregnancy pillows even after giving birth.

What would we do without pregnancy pillows? I believe that every woman should get one during pregnancy. You get so much more sleep. Pregnancy pillows provide all the comfort and support that you need. Of course you can try to get that with regular pillows, but unfortunately they are just not firm enough. If you don’t know what kind of pillow you should get, feel free to read my guide on how to choose the right pregnancy pillow guide at:
