In the Spotlight
by Melissa Petri on December 13, 2005

Bernadette Mimura, a UK based Filipina, unselfishly chose that of her baby's. Early into her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Instead of terminating her pregnancy so that she could receive life-saving drugs, she refused the treatment. She died soon after Nathan was born.
The only thing that Bernadette and I have in common is our nationality. In all honesty, I do not think I would have her courage and selflessness, if I was faced with the same dilemma.
What would you do?

I am a counselor for single mothers out there.. and have encountered same story as Bernadette's. I sympathized for the death of my friend, however, I also am happy for her courageousness. This is a true love story between mother and daughter.
