In the Spotlight

And with the growing uproar over this, MySpace is planning to screen the online MySpace community. Armed with the database of sex offenders' details, they will use this to identify and remove those who are registered in the MySpace community.
Sounds simple enough. However, it always is easy to create a new persona online.
For now, the best solution would be for parents and educators to warn children of the possible dangers. As I previously mentioned, if your teenager is one of those behind the screen, monitor (up to a certain degree) what your child is doing online. Make your teener understand that social networking sites may seem fun and innocent enough BUT, they should still take extra care. It is best to refrain from putting too much information online (name, address, school) as this may be used by sexual predators.

While this sounds great and is a great PR story, we all know that with free e-mail accounts without any form of user verification, keeping pedophiles off of kid's sites will be VERY challenging.
