Steve of Blues Clues
Steve Burns retired his green-striped rugby shirt on Blue's Clues back in 2002. Since parenthood only came in 2003 and German TV still shows re-runs of the old Blue's Clues, I did not become aware of Joe replacing Steve until recently.
I liked the transition the producers made by introducing Joe as Steve's younger brother. And the excuse of Steve going off to college was brilliant. This was explained in no less than 3 episodes. An explanation which probably made sense (not to mention, gave good influence) to the loyal pre-schoolers watching the show.
I did wonder, though, what happened to Steve in real life? Why did he leave Blue's Clues? It was an unanswered question which always comes to mind whenever my son and I watch the new videos with Joe. Yesterday, the answer came from someone I didn't expect. My single sister knew why.
Apparently, Steve left to pursue other acting opportunities. At present, Steve Burns is an indie rock musician.
I've had several friends who has been wondering, as well. I thought there are more out there like us hence, this post.

Wow…When i was like 3 or 4 I would watch steve everyday.Im 11 now and my litttle cousin watched it.When steve left she asked me “where is steve”? I didnt know what to say after i heard all of the stupid rumors of suicide and stufff like that so i just said “on vacation” Now i am glad that I can provide her with the right information.Thanks!

when i was like 3 years old i used to watch blues clues all the time im 12 now. i still check out the show sometime to see if its doing ok. then one day i saw that some other guy was playing as steve… ive always wondered why he left i mean i loved him as an actor on blues clues why did he have to leave

I remember I watched blues clues when I was like 10 and 11 and now im 18. I liked steve and when he said he was going to college I was sad and I didnt like the new guy Joe at first. But now I think Joe is way better than steve ever was and I like Joe a lot more.

when i was like 4 or 4 i used to watch the show alot…recently i heard that steve jumped off a building in a desprate attempt to “sca-do” in real…people claim that he became so crazy he couldnt tell the difference between what was real and what was fake…well steve being an indie rocker is the next worst thing “/…..

Hey i used to watch blues clues all the time till like when i was 5! I used to watch it right after kindegarten and still is my favorite show but i think steve is a lot better acter than joe. I hated it when steve left!

okay.. i was 3 when blues clues first came out and i immeadeately fell inlove with it. steve was like my hero. i didnt know about joe untill like a couple years later bc i stopped watching it and have allways wondered what happend to him.. steve should have stayed on blues clues bc joe sucks. =] kthnks

ooh.. well, i remember back in the day..steve was the shit!!! i grew up with steve. i remember i almost cried the day steve “left to college”. it just wasnt fair..then this “joe” fellow comes along. i dont like him. no ione can replace steve. just..just..something about him maybe its his SQUARED shirt?? just. not. fair. but anyways…hmm so i heard hes in a band now..ill have to check that out.

When i was about 3 or 4 years old i watch blues clues and when i saw the episode where Steve had to go to college i never knew that he would be leaving blues clues.And now that i’m 8 years old i was still wondering why he left, until now i saw it in the internet.

when i was about 4 years old i never miss blues,until 8 i was shocked that my idol was been replaced it was very sad,quite confusing why would people do that? think about the children,wish you will bring him back where he belongs,where people wants him to be.Miss him very much:(

Steve is doing ok. AS of 11.2.07 he is still living in Brooklyn. I know cuz I live in the area. He is a indie rock singer and is doing a few flicks. He also has a page on my space.com if interested. just type steve burns in search.

Wow! I was 4 when Blues Clues first came out! Steve was the bomb! Well it is good that he has a better job now! Congradulations! I am 14 now!…but hey you guys i basically posted this to tell yall to NEVER EVER post personal info online. Once you do it, it is permately there! It can never be erased no matter what. I’m not sure if he was fired, or quit…but he was put into rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. I never watched Blues Clues, I’m too old for that. But if you google him you should be able to find it.

I am 15 and I still watch re-runs of Blue’s Clues. Not the ones with Joe but with Steve. I can sit on the couch, with a blanket and laugh like I did when I was a child. Steve was a great host and always made me laugh! He knew how to get attention and not focus the show on one thing or person. He made the things around him actually seem like they were actually there and not animated in. He is my hero to this day! I love you Steve!

I remember watching Blue’s Clues as a child. I’m 19 now. So it was a couple years back, lol. I figured it was something along the lines of more money. I also heard he didn’t want to be known off of a Kids Show. I.E. Steve the Blue’s Clues Guy.

I used to watch Blue’s clues when i was 5 or 6, and when I saw the episode that steve goes to college I cried for hours. I LOVED Steve so much and rumors went everywhere that Steve had died in a car accident, that he took drugs and thats why he left, he got in a fight with someone or something. THose rumors shocked me. Now that Joe took Steve’s job, I think Joe tries to much and that he seems so fake. Steve seemed to have no problem in letting his childish side out in Blue’s Clues. I MISS YOU STEVE!!

I remember watch him with my two year old years ago. Never thought a kids show can have someone that has an addiction like that. But then there was alway captain kangaroo…there were stories about him too.

ok, just so you all know. Steve went to “college” because he was going into a rehab and blues clues didnt want someone with a drug problem on a kids show (makes a lot of sence). then he went on to try to be a musician.
i miss Steve on blues clues… i have a 2 yr old son and i won’t let him watch Joe cuz HE IS ANNOYING!!! i absolutely despise Joe… Steve was freakin Awesome! i used to watch the show with my lil brother cuz we both loved it… it was a very sad day when Steve went to “college”. i stopped watching when it changed to Joe…. i really wish they would find an excuse to get rid of him and find a new host. there will never be a replacement for Steve but c’mon… do we have to be stuck with Joe?
and btw… whats up with the Clue’s singing? that irratitaes me beyond belief! and all Joe’s stupid faces… ugh… LOVE YOU STEVE

My 18 month old is obsessed with Blues Clues. When she sees the episodes with Steve she literally stands inches from the TV entranced. She doesn’t seem to pay much attention when Joe is on. Can we start a petition to get Steve back! Just a little Blues Clues humor!

well i heard he was trying to molest blue and mrs salt and mr pepper caught him and told the mailbox so the mailbox sent a letter to the police, he was also very concerned about his baldness and figured if he was a singer he could shave his head and still be cool, then he was boo’d bc everyone knew how much of a fag he was and he left a suicide not in his handy dandy notebook and shot himself..in rehab. i watched blue’s all the time when i was a kid.Now 22 my son 2yrs LOVES to watch blue.I just like Steve a lot better, He had spirit,like he brought it all together. and enjoyed it i always loved his little funny remarks.Joe has big shoes to fill! I mean he doesn’t even seem to really care, like he’s just lazy about it. I WANT STEVE BACK!!!!! Joe is a big NO!

I used to watch blues clues when i was a little girl and now it have a daughter and she watches it almost all the time. Me and my husband were a little upset when the replaced steve with joe. we think that steve did a better job at hosting the show than joe does and we wish that steve whould come back. And i dont like none of the changes they r making to the show they need to leave it the way it was. i dont let my daughter watch the new one with the chancges on it.

I’m only just now watching Blues Clues because my 3 year old niece came to live with me, and she watches Blues Clues. Very cute show. Ahh! I soo miss Steve. When I was so little I used to watch it all the time. Now I’m 13 and don’t watch it anymore. Not only because I’ve kinda out-grown it but because the new guy[ I forgot his name ] – not saying he’s bad, but I’d rather Steve. I used to be so sad – I think my mouth actually dropped open – when I saw the first episode when Steve wasn’t there ! Lol. Wow. Just so many things are changing, it’s actually sad ! Lol. i have watched blues clues since 1996, im 13 now in 2010. steve was the absolute best. Anything that was blues clues, trust me i had it. I still watch VCR’s of old blues clues. When steve left, i didn’t watch anymore. i’ve gotta say, joe’s alright. but steve, i think i speak for millions when i say,but it’s just not the same without you. i miss you dearly.

I use to watch that show When I was a little girl. I’m 20 now and have a son of my own who is only 4 months old but loves the show. We watch the old reruns and he loves shouting at the TV with a big smile when blue comes on or Steve finds a clue. I had heard he had molested children that were on the show, which didn’t sound right considering there were never actual children on the show. I’m so glad I found out (after research) that that was never true. I still love watching the show with my son. It’s like watching them all over again considering I have forgotten the plot to half of them, but I always remember what the clues came together as once they got the last clue lol.

My 14 year old son, who absolutely loved Steve and Blue as a child, was cleaning out his old VHS collection. He came across a few Blue’s Clue’s tapes I bought him back in 1999. Just for laughs he decided to play one for awhile and we were reminded why Steve and Blue were such a great part of his childhood. The awesome part was my other son who is 9 years younger than his brother caught site of Blue’s Clue’s with Steve instead of Joe as he is used to seeing. He now prefers watching the Steve episodes over and over. But we still have to hear from my 5 year old why we did not inform him of the Steve episodes a lot sooner. lol Thank god we had a “still in great shape” VCR.
