I loved the time when I was pregnant and later, when I was breastfeeding. What I didn't like was the limitation in my eating habits.
See, I love Sushi. Having worked for a Japanese company for the past 5 years, my palate has gotten used to all those sushi/sashimi dinners and lunches.
But, is it really true that eating sushi could endanger the child in your tummy or the child you are breastfeeding? What about all those pregnant Japanese women?
According to the experts...
The US Food and Drug Administration says that moms-to-be should NOT order "swordfish, tilefish, king mackerel, and shark. These fish can contain high levels of methylmercury, a metal that can be harmful to your unborn baby."
Eating raw seafood could be risky as it may contain parasites or it could be chemically contaminated. Check out babycenter's take on the safety of eating raw fish.
I'd rather say sayonara to my sushi cravings rather than risk harming my child.
