Teaching your Child to Bike

I still do. In fact, all I need to do to remember those times is to look at the scar on my knee... and my father's knees. He not only guided me patiently, he also managed to fall down with me once. We had fun, though. And when I finally found the confidence to ride my bicycle without falling to the side, I was ecstatic. And my father was proud.
I am excited at the thought of helping my son learn how to ride a bicycle. We decided to start with a Like-A-Bike (see picture), "a remarkable play vehicle for children that are far to young to ride a proper bike, but not too small to enjoy the dynamics of movement and balance." He has been learning to balance on his own and does not seem to experience any fear.
When he becomes ready for a real bike, we will be there to guide him.
Should you deem your child ready to start learning how to bike, check Kevin Weiss' Teaching Your Child to Ride a Bike for tips on how to begin.
Or, go the gizmodo way and buy your child a GyroBike. It helps children to ride bicycles by "using gyroscoping precission to turn the front wheel in the direction of a child's impending fall, both correcting the imbalance and teaching them the counterintuitive but correct way to keep themselves from falling."
Go and get that child to cycle!
