Too noisy for a child

See that picture on the left? That's Gwyneth Paltrow holding her daugher, Apple. Judging from the ear protection Apple is wearing, both girls are watching the man in their lives, Chris Martin of Coldplay.

You do not have to be married to a rockstar to think of getting ear protection. Some of us can find ourselves in situations wherein the noise level is just way too dangerous for our child (and even our own).

"Yes, noise can be dangerous. If it is loud enough and lasts long enough, it can damage your hearing," according to the American Academy of Otolargyngology - Head and Neck Surgery.

And sometimes, these noise levels can even be found at home. Some toys have proven to be too loud and could be dangerous if kids constanlty play with them; Cited are The Home Depot Light and Sound Grinder, Barbie's "Jam with Me" electric guitar and "Play a Song" Dora the Explorer adventure song book.

Listen to a toy before buying it. Or, if you already have them at home, make sure that you take the batteries out.

Sensorineural hearing loss or nerve deafness can be reduced or prevented. Protect your child and be aware that some noise could result in loss of hearing.
