Former Spice Girl (Ginger) geri halliwell
is following the footsteps of Madonna. And no, she's not set on being yet another celeb who will be adopting more children from another poverty-stricken country. The other "it" thing to do (it seems) is to write books.
Just like Madonna and Kylie Minogue, Geri Halliwell launched a new career as a children's book author. To be published by Macmillan Children's Books, uGenia Lavender will be a 6-book series which will be released from May 2008, with a book released each month. In addition, Halliwell will also be recording a song to accompany the books and will also be reading the audio editions.
Apparently, Halliwell started writing when she was pregnant with her now-11 month old baby, Bluebell Madonna.
"She says that creating the book's heroine, nine-year-old Ugenia Lavender - who like Bluebell takes part of her name from a plant - was 'like a rebirth'.
Halliwell cites her literary influences as greats like CS Lewis, Enid Blyton and Oscar Wilde and adds of her books: 'There is a positive message in there, but it tastes like chocolate not cabbage.'"
Other celebrities' literary skills may be lacking but due to marketing and their celebrity status, their books have done well in the market. I guess, we can safely say that Geri Halliwell will have the same advantages working for her. At least for Geri Halliwell, she seems like she does a lot of reading (CS Lewis, Enid Blyton and Oscar Wilde no less!) and also wrote songs so, I am guessing that she may have a lot more to offer than other celebrity-turned-writers. We'll see when uGenia Lavender is launched next year.
What do YOU think? Would it be any good?
