According to a Save the Children report, the US "ranks near the bottom for infant survival rates among modernized nations." The US is tied with Hungary, Malta, Poland and Slovakia.
Seven out of 1,000 babies die before reaching their first birthday according to the Center for Disease and Control. The rate of babies born to African-American mother are two and a half times higher than Caucasian mothers.
Statistics were taken in 2004, which is the most recent available.
