Vicks Vaporub, Under Scrutiny

Vicks Vaporub, Under Scrutiny

I am 35 years old and I cannot remember a time in my childhood that my parents did not use VICKS Vaporub as a remedy when we cannot breath due to a bad cold.

Now as an adult, we still use Vicks Vaporub as a home remedy and I've been using it on my child as well.

Recently, Vicks Vaporub went under scrutiny when a study came out that it may pose breathing problems in children under 2.

Also, a Wake Forest University documented an 18-month-year-old girl who wound up in the emergency room after her grandmother applied Vick's VapoRub to her upper lip.

This is where the problem comes in: when this product is misused. Common sense tells us that we shouldn't put Vicks Vaporub in the nostrils nor in the mouth. I don't know how other use it, but I know that our parents rub it on our chest and back to help us breath when we were laden with a bad cold.

Do you still use Vicks Vaporub?

I was given Vicks Vaporub as a child and I use the children’s Vicks on my 18 month old. I think as long as it’s used properly it’s wonderful. It helps my daughter get some much needed rest when she has a cold.
