Where Do Babies Come From

Where Do Babies Come From

Yesterday, we passed by the hospital where I gave birth 2 months ago. When my husband and I pointed it out to our 3-year old son, he told us both that the hospital was where we "got" our 2 month-old baby.

Our second son was not brought by the stork. Instead, in my older son's eyes, we went into the hospital and got him there. Like buying, perhaps.

We've done our best in preparing our son for the arrival of his sibling. To date, he has not shown any signs of resenting the fact that he is not in the spotlight anymore. Instead, he showers his little brother with kisses every chance he gets. But, I guess, we didn't really concentrate much on explaining to him where babies come from.

I did try to explain while I was pregnant that there's a baby inside. And showed him the illustration on the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting" but every time I did that, he'd say that he has a baby inside his stomach, too. And that was it. I didn't really think of any other way to explain it to him.

Well, for sure, he will later learn about the birds and the bees. And will finally realize how he and his brother came to be. But, later.

I wonder, though, how other parents taught their older kids. What about YOU? How did you manage to explain to your older kids?

I have two boys myself, aged 6 and 3. My elder son knew that he was going to have a baby brother. We told him that Jesus was giving us another baby so he would have someone to play with. Just by that thought, he was excited all throughout. Now that they’re older and when they quarrel, my elder son would say, “Mom, I wish we asked for a baby sister, instead.” LOL…
