Work from Home
Some moms are lucky enough to work in a company that supports work-life balance or, even better, those that allow telecommuting. In my humble opinion, to be able to work from home is the best thing that could happen to a career woman doubling as a mother.
Alas, I am not as lucky. I work from 9-5 for a company where work-life balance is a word that is not recognized. If you are in a similar situation, fret not. All is not lost. There are possibilities which are worth exploring.
One is to apply at another company where the company structure would allow you to work from home. Another is to get a part-time job, instead of a full-time one to ensure more time with your child.

Another option worth considering is to stay home and turn your talents into profits. Look for online work. Or, start a micro business based on what you know and what you enjoy doing (like scrapbooking, sewing, etc.)
The point is, you should honestly assess what you can and cannot do before you finally decide on what you could do. Especially now that internet is making the impossible possible.
Note that there is nothing wrong with staying home (without considering above suggestions) and concentrating on taking care of your children. We all have to do what we all need to do. Different strokes for different folks.
